Our "Collected Over Time" Gallery Wall

Hey friends!  Today, I'd like to share with you our newly updated gallery wall in the living room.  This wall is filled with fun items....some handmade, some bought at antiques' stores and fairs, and some of these items were purchased online.  I'm so excited to share with you these fun details!  What a difference changing up a wall in our living room has made!

What I love about this gallery wall is that it evokes a "collected over time" feel.  And it was very easy to do!  Here are a few ideas to give your own gallery wall that handmade feel:

1.  Use new or vintage clipboards to attach art

or family pictures.  I picked up these adorable silhouette prints at the Country Living Fair last year.

2.  Use vintage art.  This flying ducks framed print was at Goodwill for $3!

3.  Incorporate various clocks.  This vintage cuckoo clock came from a Habitat for Humanity thrift store in South Carolina.  They were asking $20 for it, but since I was buying a bag full of stuff (okay, a couple of bags -- lol!), I was able to talk them down to $10.  Score!

4.  Use galvanized or chipboard letters or numbers.  I picked up this galvanized "B" from Hobby Lobby.

5.  Add an arrow.  This "coffee" arrow was sitting all by its lonesome in the clearance aisle at Hobby Lobby.  It was crying out for me to purchase it and give it a fresh coat of paint and a stencil....So, even though I haven't refinished it yet, it's on my never-ending to-do list.  Do y'all have any suggestions as to what I should do with her?

6.  Use silhouettes and taxidermy.  This gorgeous antique silhouette is O.L.D.  Did I mention how old it is?  Something like the late 1800s.  Thus, I'm too afraid to even take it out of the frame.  I don't care that it's cracked. I absolutely love it! :)  And the faux taxidermy hook is from TJMaxx.  Isn't she a beauty?!

7.  Use embroidery...any of it.  It's all gorgeous.  And to me, any kind of needlepoint tells a story that someone poured their precious time into making a beautiful piece of art!

8.   Search online for some great art or fabric.  And since I'm going to Haven this year, Minted gave me the opportunity to pick out a couple of items at their online shop.  (Another post will follow soon on the other item I picked out!)  And I couldn't be happier with this super-fun and fresh herringbone framed art print.   I love the beautiful detail of the frame and the tribal design on each paddle -- and there are various colors, which all tie in nicely with the rest of our gallery wall!

9.  Use washi tape to hang art or pics.  What I love about this special, decorative tape is that you can easily put it on and pull it off whenever you have the inkling to do so.  But see how this pretty tape enhances the fun colors of this scrapbook art print?!

10.  And don't forget a mirror or two.  The two gilded mirrors that are hanging on this wall are both from second-hand shops, and they were purchased on a dime!

On a sidenote:  Another idea would be to use some fabric scraps to make a garland.  (Here are two examples in one post, and here's another idea.)  This idea hasn't been incorporated in our current living room gallery wall, but who's to say it won't happen sometime in the near future??  It just might...

Lastly, don't stress about making everything evenly spaced!  Just have an idea as to how you'll hang things, and then just start nailing your nails into the wall!  The hardest part about getting started is hanging that first item.  (Here's a quick tip: A less invasive way to hang your art is to use 3M velcro strips -- one of my personal faves.)

I hope this list has given you a good starting point for various gallery wall ideas!  This post is in no way a list of every single idea, obviously.  But I hope it at least has inspired you to create your own wall or to tweak what you've already created.  What are some ways you've hung a gallery wall?  I'd to hear about them!
